We don’t want to give away \u003cem\u003eall\u003c\/em\u003e our engineering secrets, but the bulk of our power comes from using oversized ball bearings, and machining our pistons from 12L14 steel. Using this steel alloy allows us to heat treat the pistons which also hardens the bearing ramp races to resist pitting for a lifetime of silky smooth lever pull. Using flat needle roller thrust bearings instead of a plastic thrust washers doesn’t hurt either.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese brakes are \u003cem\u003eperfect \u003c\/em\u003efor long mileage deep wilderness bike touring where field serviceability with nothing but a good multitool is crucial to getting back to civilization alive. They’re also great on cyclocross race bikes where tool free independent pad adjustment and a simple cable barrel adjuster means you can fine-tune brake feel specific to course and conditions. We constantly see them on custom built steel hardtails and gravel grinder shred sleds where a rider wants the proven quality of as many American made components as possible.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs with our I.S. Mount Klamper, the new Flat-Mount version features\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.paulcomp.com\/shop\/service-parts\/flat-mount-klamper-actuator-arm-kit\/\"\u003einterchangeable actuator arms.\u003c\/a\u003e Since most flat-mount bikes utilize drop bars, these are currently only available in Short-Pull and Campagnolo Pull. If you are using a flat or riser bar on your flat-mount bike, we do make some very nice \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.paulcomp.com\/shop\/components\/canti-lever\/\"\u003eshort-pull brake levers\u003c\/a\u003e. Please note that the Flat-Mount and I.S. Actuator arms are \u003cem\u003enot\u003c\/em\u003e interchangeable, the arms are specific to the bodies.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eWe decided not to make rotors. That’s a manufacturing process we do not do, and they are readily available. Floating rotors with large buttons (like Hope) might rub against the caliper, but we’ve had great results with Shimano Ice-Tech, Sram, Avid, and most other rotor brands. The big news this time is that its had a slight redesign and will now take 29 x 3″ tyres, which is certainly a reason to be cheerful.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e2 colours – Murky Rose (Pantone 4985C) and Sage (Pantone 5555C)\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor this run i’ve reduced the seat tube length of the 20″ frame to 19″, so the standover is virtually the same as the 18″, it just has an extra 20mm in the top tube length and a taller head-tube. These bikes build big and chunky, if in doubt about which size to go for take a look at the reach on the geo chart and base your choice on what suits you best, but remember, its my honest opinion that a rigid dirt bike needs to be shorter and taller than that long, slack and low hardtail you might have been spending all your time on. To give you a rough idea, the 18″ will be good for anyone from 5’6 up to 6′. The 20″ will suit from 5’10 and up, but those on the lower end of the height spectrum will need a mega short stem to get this size feeling good and rippy. I’m 5’11 (6′ first thing in the morning before the brittle bones sink) and normally ride an 18 but have just built myself a 20 to see how the larger size rides for someone my height, and it feels great with a 40mm stem and big bars.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e2 wheel size choices – The big news is that the next run of frames are designed to clear 29 x 3.00 rubber. A lot of people will be very happy about this! You can also use 27.5+, or any other size of 29er rubber, but for the full experience, bigger is better.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe fork has also been upgraded and now includes a crown mount to make installing a front rack easier. The legs are triple butted and offer a really nice amount of compliance whilst still being more than tough enough for proper MTB riding.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHere’s some info on specs:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e73mm threaded bottom bracket shell. 31.6 seatpost size with internal dropper routing. Headset is regular 1 1\/8th AKA EC34. Boost axle standards front and rear (that’s 148 x 12mm rear, 110 x 15mm front). IS brake mounts on frame and fork.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eChainline? I get asked a lot about which chainline you should go with on my frames, 52 or 55? The quick answer is 52mm. The 55mm chainline was created to allow suspension bike designers to work around problems created by pivots and the expectations of gnarly riders who all want 34t chainrings, none of which holds any sway on svelte steel rigid bikes like a Stooge and the zen masters who ride them. The downside of 55 is that the chainline is compromised and nowhere near as nice as 52. Maybe the short answer is better. Go 52. 49 will also work fine and will give a truly splendid chainline, but may not be so hot with 3″ tyres in the climbing gear.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhich Stooge bars should i use on my Scrambler? i hear you ask. Well that all depends. If you’re shorter or prefer a lower front end then the Moto bar will fit the bill. For long haul cruisy comfort i recommend the Tracker 85 bar. Want to build your Scrambler into a shredtastic trail killer\/man size BMX, then the Junker bars are king. I’m currently using the Tracker 85 and the comfort and feel is fantastic.
