Rusty Sam's ride 2025

These shots got lost in the depths of memory card disorganisation during my hectic summer period, but it's nice to look back on some summer excursions during what feels like the wettest winter of all time!

Sam's annual group ride is always a great mix of people, terrain and bikes.
The South Downs is always the location, but Sam's route knowledge around there is so extensive that the ride is completely different every year.

I love these gulleys, there seems to be loads of them in the South Downs. The ride involved a bit of everything from bridleways to sandy woodland to open heathland, the flow was perfect, a smoother route than previous years which felt great on a drop bar bike.

I had a ride on Stan's Jones LWB and it reminded me how wildly unique these things are! I'm not sure why or how, but I can never get over the feeling of acceleration that they have, despite being so far removed from what is traditionally considered 'sporty' geometry.

This spot was mad, a huge clearing and in the middle, a film set, a faux old farm building, surrounded by lorries and high abs. I was told it gets used in many British TV series and films, and the building was soon to be blown up for a scene!

Jody, who's birthday we normally celebrate on this ride wasn't able to join us, his health was declining at that point in the year and he sadly passed a few months later.

The man battled so hard for many years and seemed to live those years to the max.

We were all thinking of him while out on the trails, he had such a zest for life, remembering him while exploring the Southdowns lesser known trails will be a tradition that will live on forever for many of us.

R.I.P Jody Sexton.
