CARRIE takes the tried and tested Cradle and double sided Dry Bag product typology and simplifies it, so a rider can faff less and ride more. It consists of a two main parts, first a Mono-material, stiffened cradle, and second a silicone coated and internally taped dry bag. These combine to mount to flat or drop bars in two different configurations (wide or narrow strap positions), using just one pair of heavy-duty, simple to operate, WholeGrain Cycles STIFF Straps. The cradle is then locked in position with one no-stretch, minimal-contact and low-abrasion ‘retention cord’ around the bikes head tube.
Most other handlebar Cradle systems utilise a pair of straps to attach the cradle to the handlebars and another pair, or sometimes trio, of straps to hold the dry bag in place. CARRIE removes the need for one of these pairs of straps by combining both pairs' functions, providing attachments to the handlebars, and retention of the dry bag with just one pair of straps. This also makes mounting, compression, then removal of the dry bag (or other load) quicker and easier, yet very confidence-inspiring. These two straps are Wholegrain’s well-respected ‘STIFF Straps’, and once installed to the handlebars, need only to be tightened or loosened, not totally ‘unclipped’. This further improves the experience and ease of mounting and removal of the Dry Bag.
The Dry Bag included with CARRIE is a generous 18L when full, and is made of a lightweight ripstop recycled polyester with a silicone waterproof coating that helps keep the weight down, yet retain a long-lasting waterproofing (compared to a regular PU-only coated fabric). The dry bag is also taped along one seam only, to further improve the waterproof lifespan. Although large in volume, this lightweight fabric allows for use at ½ maximum volume without creating bulky excess fabric.. Perfect for those with narrow drop bars. A simple Aluminium G-hook and webbing loop are used to securely but easily close the bag, even with gloved hands.
If a rider wants more or less carrying capacity, or to carry a slightly different load, they are able to mount most other items (tent bag, stuff bag, sleeping system) into CARRIE’s Cradle part just as easily as the supplied 18L Dry Bag. CARRIE is accepting of all!
Made from only one type of plastic, PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate), from a mix of recycled and virgin sources, CARRIE’s Cradle part is one of the few pieces on the market that is ‘Mono-material’. This includes the main fabric, which uses an innovative (and rarely seen in the industry) PET coating to enhance its water resistance and durability.
Combining this with a mix of recycled and virgin PET webbing and trims, as well as a recycled PET stiffening board, CARRIE’s Cradle can be really easily recycled at the end of life into higher value recycled material, without any difficult product disassembly. We believe* this is the first mono-material bikepacking product that currently exists! CARRIE Cradle and its Dry Bag simplify the handlebar cradle and dry bag experience, and ‘move the needle’ on environmentally aware design in the Bikepacking space,
helping riders push their boundaries, while pushing our planet’s, a little less.

REQUIREMENTS FOR USE
- Compatible with handlebars of any material - Metal, carbon, wood, etc. No clamping
force, and minimal movement when mounted correctly, means only minor cosmetic
damage may occur to the handlebar (due to micro abrasion). - Clearance from the top of the handlebar to the top of the front tyre of 220mm
- Compatible with both quill (threaded) stems and ‘threadless’ stems,
- Compatible with most integrated bar-stems, aero bars and some other ‘alt-bars’
(Check with Wholegrain before purchase/use if unsure).
LOADED WEIGHT LIMIT
- Recommended for up to 5kg. There are no industry ISO, EN or ANSI standards that
relate to this type of product, therefore this weight limit is guided by Wholegrain’s
extensive internal testing and resulting recommendations.
